Perses Consulting has been awarded a multi-year contract to support WMATA, through their Metro Integrated Command and Control Center, Consequence Management team, to support a three-year exercise series.
Metro's transit system includes a public heavy rail/subway system and an extensive bus network serving Washington, DC as well as several jurisdictions in the states of Maryland and Virginia. The agency transports a high volume of residents, workers, and tourists daily; serving a population of approximately 4 million within a 1,500 square mile jurisdiction. The Authority is the only tri-jurisdictional transportation agency in the country.
The annual series of exercises will include six (6) tabletop exercises and three (3) full-scale exercises focusing on the response to a safety and/or security incident occurring on Metro property and impacting one mode or all modes of Metro transit services for a possible total of eighteen (18) tabletops and nine (9) full-scale exercises over three years.
Due to their location within the National Capital Region (NCR), WMATA incorporates regional partnerships within their training and exercise process. Through regional collaboration between Metro and jurisdictional partners, these exercises will provide the opportunity to strengthen several core capabilities:
Planning
Critical Transportation
Public Information & Warning
Operational Coordination
Operational Communications
Situational Assessment
Interdiction and Disruption
On-Scene Security, Protection, and Law Enforcement
Cybersecurity
In addition to the comprehensive exercise series, the Perses team is supporting WMATA with the review and update of comprehensive planning documents including:
Emergency Operations Plan
Event Coordination Plans
Continuity of Operations Plans
